Hey everyone! Thanks for coming by the blog. I hope you all had a great weekend! Kerry and I were shopping in PA over the weekend, and while we were there we picked up some beer that we can't get in NJ. I was excited to find some cans of Cigar City Brewing Jai Alai IPA, a beer I tasted a year and a half ago while Kerry and I were on our honeymoon in Florida! From Cigar City's website, I learned that Jai Alai is a Spanish game that sounds awfully like lacrosse. It apparently used to be popular in the Tampa, FL area, but not anymore. Let's dig into this IPA!

Cigar City's Jai Alai IPA pours cloudy and dark orange in color with a one finger width white head. There is lots of floating precipitate present, so I am guessing this IPA is unfiltered. The aroma is full of citrus. I can pinpoint aromas similar to grapefruit, lemon, mango and pine. Jai Alai IPA has tons of hop flavor and a pleasant amount of bitterness. The flavor is mainly citrus, similar to that of the aroma. It is quite a smooth beer, and has light carbonation and a medium body.
Overall: A pretty good IPA. Honestly, one of better in the style. If I had a case of this, I'm not sure it would last for long. The color, aroma and flavor are all fantastic. If you happen to see this around, definitely try it out!
Have you had Cigar City's Jai Alai IPA? What did you think? Feel free to let me know in the comments!
Thanks James!
ReplyDeleteI'm actually not a cigar smoker, but I'm glad you find it relaxing. For me, I enjoy simply sitting with a beer at home on the couch, but throwing a lake into the mix would make it even better!
