Hey all, thanks for coming by!  Every now and then while Kerry and I are shopping at our local Wegmans supermarket, we take a stroll through their mix a six-pack area to see if they have anything unique.  They have one of the largest mix a six-pack areas I've seen.  A lot of the selection is seasonal and flagship beers, but every now and then we find some special releases mixed in.  Last month, they had some 21st Amendment Lower de Boom!  I quickly put two in our six-pack, one to drink now and another to save in the cellar. All 8.4 fl. oz. of Lower de Boom After checking out 21st Amendment's website , I learned that Lower de Boom is part of the Insurrection Series.  The other two beers listed as part of the Insurrection series are Marooned on Hog Island and Hop Crisis.  I have high hopes for this beer, let's see what it's made of! Another beer I picked up on my trip to Virginia was DC Brau's The Citizen.  Right on the can The Citizen proclaims itself as a "Belgian-Style Pale."  If I had had more time on my trip, I would have loved to have visited DC Brau's brewery, but alas, it will have to wait until next time.  This is my first DC Brau brew, and I can't wait to try it out.  Let's see how The Citizen pours... DC Brau The Citizen Belgian-Style Pale Ale The Citizen DC Brau Belgian-style Pale Ale 7% ABV 12 oz. can poured into my Ithaca Beer pub glass DC Brau The Citizen Belgian-Style Pale Ale DC Brau's The Citizen pours pale gold in color, with a finger and half width of white head.  The head subsides fairly quickly, and doesn't leave much lacing.  Lots of carbonation is visible rising from the bottom of the glass.  There is tons of citrus in the aroma of The Citizen.  Lemon, orange, grapefruit.  A bit of a yeasty aroma is present as well. ...

I have heard an incredible amount of good things about the beers from Maui Brewing Co.  Now, I try not to judge a beer before  I've had it, but it's hard not to have high expectations with Maui Brewing's Coconut Porter.  It has won medals in many beer competitions, including the World Beer Cup, United States Open Beer Championship and the San Diego International Beer Competition.  Arrowine in Arlington, VA had 4-packs of the Coconut Porter, and I picked some up without a second thought!  Let's check the stats on this beer, and see if it lives up to the hype!   Maui Brewing Co. Hey everyone, thanks for stopping in!  Glad it's Friday?  Me too!  Tonight I am drinking another canned offering from Sly Fox Brewing Company out of Pottstown, PA.  It is their Odyssey Imperial IPA.  On the can, the label says that each year the Sly Fox brewers "select their favorite and newly discovered hops to create a big, bold Imperial IPA."  I suppose then that the recipe on this beer changes a bit from year to year.  I like that!  Let's crack this can open...   Sly Fox Odyssey Imperial IPA   Odyssey  Sly Fox Brewing Company Imperial IPA 8.4% ABV 90 IBUs 12 oz. can poured into Victory Brewing tulip glass Sly Fox Odyssey Imperial IPA Odyssey Imperial IPA pours a beautiful golden amber color with a two finger width white head.  There is extravagant lacing, and the beer looks clear (filtered).  As soon as the beer was poured, I got a whiff of grassy hops, but before long, the aroma was gone...

Hey everyone!  Thanks for coming by the blog.  I hope you all had a great weekend!  Kerry and I were shopping in PA over the weekend, and while we were there we picked up some beer that we can't get in NJ.  I was excited to find some cans of Cigar City Brewing Jai Alai IPA, a beer I tasted a year and a half ago while Kerry and I were on our honeymoon in Florida!  From Cigar City's website, I learned that Jai Alai is a Spanish game that sounds awfully like lacrosse.  It apparently used to be popular in the Tampa, FL area, but not anymore.  Let's dig into this IPA! 12 oz  can of Sixpoint Resin Greetings all, thanks for stopping in!  Hope everyone's having a great weekend and staying warm.  A quick beer review this weekend.  Tonight I am drinking Resin from Sixpoint.  I have been meaning to pick this one up for awhile, and finally managed to get my hands on one.  It is a double IPA, and like all of Sixpoint's flagship beers, comes in a can.  I love the idea of IPAs in a can.  I can be a little OCD at times with purchasing IPAs, especially if I feel they've been sitting on the store shelf for a long time, and in the light .  Light will speed up the rate at which the fragile hop bitterness, flavor and aroma disappears from the beer, and can even impart a skunked flavor to the beer.  Packaging the IPA in a can helps to make the beer a little less fragile!  Let's dig in! Happy Christmas Eve-Eve everyone!  Tonight I am trying a canned offering from Brooklyn, NY's Sixpoint Brewery .  Last year, Sixpoint started to put their beers into these "nanokegs", and since then, have greatly expanded their distribution.  I've had several of Sixpoint's beers in the past, and they've allowed me to continuously expect a top-notch brew.  This is my first review of a Sixpoint beer.  Here we go!  Diesel Sixpoint Brewery 6.3% ABV 69 IBUs, 33 SRM Diesel pours a smooth black color, which gains a red hue around the perimeter of the beer when held up to a light.  There is a one finger width, light tan head.  A pleasant lacing is left on the glass as the head recedes.  When I take a whiff of this beer, there are tons of roasted malts, coffee and pine.  The aromas make me impatient to take my first sip.  Taking that sip, I get all roasted malts and dark chocolate upfront, and then a subtle pine bitternes...

Thanks for coming by everyone!  While doing some Christmas shopping after work on Friday, some detours caused by local flooding caused me to drive by a liquor store I've never been to before (the Liquor Barn ).  I've always wanted to stop in, mainly for the reason that they built it to look like a big red barn!  Not knowing what to expect in the arena of beer, I went in not expecting much.  I left pleasantly surprised!  Their selection is not huge, but they let you mix a 6 pack with what they have!  I ended up leaving with Sixpoint Diesel, Brooklyn Monster, River Horse Tripel, Harpoon Winter Warmer, Sierra Nevada Celebration, and the beer I will be reviewing tonight, Butternuts Porkslap Pale Ale.  They also surprisingly had bottles of Brooklyn Black Ops!!  I would never have expected that.
