Hey everyone! Tonight, I bring you this beer tasting with a winter storm cutely named Nemo knocking on my door. With plans of staying inside for the next 12 - 20 hours, Kerry and I reactivated our Netflix streaming subscription. Right now we are watching Adventureland, which has a few Velvet Underground/Lou Reed songs playing on the soundtrack. There is lots of other good stuff too (The Replacements, Bowie, Husker Du). Those are good, but it really makes me question why I don't listen to Lou Reed more. I think I'm going to have to add him to my Pandora stations!
In the world of craft beer, Allagash Brewing can't seem to do much wrong. They have an incredibly strong core lineup of beers, including their White, Tripel, Black and Curieux. Tonight I am going to drink a bottle of their Dubbel. I have had this beer in the past, but not in quite some time. With Allagash's reputation, I have high hopes this beer will be quite palatable.

Allagash Dubbel pours light brown with less than a finger width of off-white head. The head was smaller than I expected it to be, and also subsided fairly quick. The aroma was dominated with yeast character, and also smelled of sweet malt and freshly baked bread. Tasting the beer, it starts with light carbonation on my tongue, and that sweetness immediately comes through. It's followed with bread, lime and just a touch of alcohol. It's perhaps a tad nutty also. A bit heavier than a medium body, a slightly less than average carbonation.
Overall: Allagash's Dubbel is a wonderful example of the Belgian Dubbel style. It is quite approachable, and yet contains a complexity that many beer drinkers will love. This beer should be quite easy to find at most good beer stores.

Agreed, Allagash has yet to disappoint. Haven't had their dubbel yet, though, so adding it to my Wishlist!
ReplyDeleteAdventureland is such a great show...right up there with Archer and Bob's Burgers for me.
Thanks for reading, Jeremy! Allagash is one of those brewers where you know you are going to be getting a great product. Easily one of my favorites.
